Joan (Thompson) Allen

Joan (Thompson) Allen, age 85 of Covington, passed away on Friday, January 22, 2021 at Meadows Manor North in Terre Haute.  She was born in Marshall, IL on June 19, 1935 to the late Gust O. & Lulu Aletha (Weaver) Thompson.

Joan graduated from Marshall High School in Illinois and on February 1, 1954 in Peoria, IL she married Samuel Riley Allen, who preceded her in death on August 23, 2013.  She was a loving mother, grandmother and homemaker.  Throughout the years she worked as a secretary for Covington High School for 14 years and enjoyed reading, cooking, baking, playing her piano and organ and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  She was a 50-year member of the Yeddo OES and a member of Prairie Creek Baptist Church, where she used to play the organ and piano.

She is survived by three children, Warren (Beth) Allen of Brownsburg, Pam (Doug) Lewis of Kingman, and Norman (Theresa) Allen of Attica; 10 grandchildren, Rebecca (David) Lehman, Jason (Jacqui) Lewis, Nicole (Neil) Martin, David (Casie) Allen, Daniel (Jessie) Allen, Joseph (Sarah) Allen, Cecelia Allen, Jessica (Clayton) Eldridge, Jon (Jennifer) Allen, and Rachel (Darius) Ginn; 15 great grandchildren; and one sister, Betty Bowling.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sam; and three brothers, Jim Thompson, Eugene Thompson, and Harlan Thompson.

Visitation will be at Sanders Funeral Care, 203 S 1st Street in Kingman on Thursday, January 28, 2021 from 11:00am till the time of the funeral service at 1:00pm with Pastor Warren Allen, her son, and Pastor Loren Stephens officiating.  The service will be live-streamed and recorded which can be viewed on Joan’s obituary page at www.sandersfuneralcare.com  Social distancing is expected and masks required.  Burial will follow at Coal Creek Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be given to Prairie Creek Baptist Church, c/o Irene Norman, 3304 S Meridian Road, Kingman, IN 47952.
