Mr. Joe Pointer, 93, Crawfordsville, passed away in his home on Monday, May 19, at 9:45 AM. He was born March 11, 1921, in Crawfordsville, to Josiah and Hester Ann (Mason) Pointer. He married Mary Irena Proffitt on October 12, 1946, at the First United Methodist Church, Crawfordsville. She preceded him in death July 29, 1992.

Mr. Pointer was associated with the Elston Bank & Trust for over 41 years, having retired in 1986 as its President. He continued to serve on the Bank's Board of Directors until 1991. He was a 1940 graduate of New Market High School; a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in China, Burma, and the India Theater during WW II, and retired as a Major in 1965 from the U. S. Army Reserves; was a member of the First United Methodist Church; a member of the Elks, Masonic Lodge #50, Scottish Rite of Indianapolis, Murat Shrine; on the Board of Directors at Oak Hill Cemetery; and was the Salvation Army Representative for Montgomery County for 32 years. As a hobby Joe had a great love of collecting cars.

He is survived by his brother-in-law: John (Evelyne) Proffitt, Naples, Floida; his nieces and nephews: Susie Pointer Groves, Cathy Jo Pointer, Sabrena Proffitt Schmelter, Marena Jo Proffitt Turner, Jene Anne Proffitt Pendleton, Becky Richardson Miller, Betsy Richardson Borruso, Judy Richardson, Jill Richardson, Laurel Proffitt, Lisa Proffitt Fox, Linda Proffitt, David Proffitt, Karen Hoefert, Mary Beth Watkins, Steven Charles Proffitt, and Leanna Cochran. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; his brother: Burrell Dale Pointer; his niece: Cindy Pointer; and his nephew: Daniel Proffitt.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Friday, May 23, at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary Lewis officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill North Cemetery with Military Rites being conducted by the American Legion and VFW Posts of Crawfordsville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM.
