Joe Michael Smith

Joe Michael Smith, age 59, of Lafayette and formerly of Veedersburg passed away at 4:10pm on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 in Indianapolis. He was born in Danville IL on September 19, 1955 to Joe C. Smith and the late Shirley Joan (Cowan) Smith-Bahls.

Joe graduated from Fountain Central High School in 1973 and worked at Fairfield Manufacturing in Lafayette. He enjoyed reading, talking politics, and was an avid football fan.

He is survived by his father, Joe C. (wife-Shirley) Smith of Hillsboro; 3 children, Anisha, Kyle, and Luke; a brother, Steve (wife-Denise) Smith of TX; two sisters, Mindy Smith-Ferguson of Crawfordsville and Wendy Smith-Mortimore of Veedersburg; a step-brother, Scott (wife-Chris) Edgar; two step-sisters Rhonda (husband-Tim) Stuart and Missy Canfield; a special uncle, Jerry Cowan; special nieces and nephews, Blake (wife-Chandler), Jakob, and Trey Mortimore and Shayne and Shurlia DeLong; and three grandchildren and one on the way.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Shirley; a brother, David; his maternal and paternal grandparents; an uncle, John Cowan; and a niece.

Family will receive friends from 6-8pm Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Sanders Funeral Care, 203 S 1st Street, in Kingman with cremation to follow.
