John C. Allen

John C. Allen, age 88 of Crawfordsville passed away on November 2, 2018 at Franciscan Health Indianapolis.  He was born in Steuben, Indiana on April 6, 1930 to the late Ralph Fay & Susie Ivaloe (Ratcliff) Allen.

John graduated from Pine Village High School in 1950 and proudly served his country in the United States Army.  He was stationed in Germany and served during the Korean War.  On July 11 1954 he married the love of his life, Barbara Lorraine (Hurd) Allen, who survives.

John was a salesman and worked as an insurance agent for Western-Southern Life Insurance Company for over 22 years.  He was a member of the East Side Baptist Church.  He enjoyed gardening, mushroom hunting, loved detailing cars and loved watching NASCAR, his favorite drivers being A.J Foyt and Jeff Gordon.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara, of Crawfordsville; a son, Gary Allen of Indianapolis; a daughter, Cathy Jo (Andrew) Rausch of Rochester; a brother, Rex Allen; a sister, Elieen Hancock; sister-in-law, Wreatha Allen; two grandchildren, Christopher Michael (Lindsay) Rausch and Austin John (Dina) Rausch; and two great-grandchildren, Calex and Nicola Rausch.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Thornton Allen and Eugene (Barbara E.) Allen; brother-in-law, Mel Hancock; and a sister-in-law, Susie Allen.

Visitation will be at East Side Baptist Church, 2000 Traction Road, Crawfordsville on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 from 11:00am till the time of the funeral service at 1:00pm with Pastor Steve Whicker officiating.  Cremation will follow the service with the burial of cremains at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in his memory to the East Side Baptist Church.  Sanders Priebe Funeral Care entrusted with care.  Share memories and condolences online at www.sandersfuneralcare.com
