John Allan Fischer

December 12, 1931 — May 31, 2017

Mr. John A. Fischer, age 85, of Crawfordsville, In. passed away on the afternoon of May 31 st. at Williamsburg Nursing Home, Crawfordsville, In.

John was born at Alamo on December 12, 1931 the son of Fred C. and Belle (nee: James) Fischer and graduated from Alamo High School. He first married Alicia Dougherty on April 10, 1959 and they had a son and two daughters. Alicia passed away on November 21, 1977. John then married Carolyne Mitchell on August 6, 1983 and she survives him. John was very active in the Alamo Masonic lodge #144 where he was a past Master and a 50 plus year member. He was also a 50 plus year member of the Order of Eastern Star #498, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, the Murat Shrine and the Montgomery County Shrine Club. He was the Ripley Township Trustee at the time Southmont School was consolidated and built. John was retired from R.R. Donnelly and Sons after 44 years of employment, his last position was in the Materials Dept. He was very interested in cars and racing and worked for 20 years at the Indianapolis Moter Speedway as a seasonal worker.

John is survived by his wife, Carolyne Fischer of Crawfordsville, In. ; son Mark Fischer of Crawfordsville, In and daughters Susan Snapp of Ft. Wayne, In and Karen Fischer of San Diego, CA. He also has two step daughters: Laura (Robert) Eckart of Greenwood, In. and Cindy (Darrell) Wiatt of Russellville, In and a step son: Chris Mitchell of Crawfordsville, In. survivors also include his brothers: Paul (Mary) Fischer of Crawfordsville, IN and Jim Fischer of Rockville, IN. and sisters Martha Griggs of Crawfordsville, In, and Alice Fischer of Vera Beach, FL. along with 2 grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren. John was predeceased by his parents, first wife and his brother Dale Fischer.

Funeral services for John will be held at 1:00pm Saturday June 3rd at Shoemaker Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Wilkie officiating. Burial will follow in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Masonic rites will be conducted at the begining of the funeral service. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am Saturday until the services at 1:00pm. Those who wish may make memorial donations to the Parkinson's Awareness Association of Central Indiana,Inc 4756 Kingsway Drive, Suite #333, Indianapolis, In. 46206-1560. Envelopes will also be provided at the funeral home.
