John Martz, 83, of Crawfordsville—beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather— was called to his eternal resting place after a third episode of pneumonia at his home surrounded by family on March 27, 2020, on his father’s birthday.
He entered this world on January 8, 1937 in Roachdale, Indiana to Marion Martz and Ruby Suiter Martz. John attended and graduated from Roachdale High School in 1955. He later married the love of his life, Margaret, on April 4, 1958. John served 6 years in the Army Reserves from 1957 to 1963. John was employed with AT&T locally, where he retired in 1994 with 28 years of service—never missing a day of work.
John was a humble man; appreciative of all God had given him. John enjoyed flying his early Cessna airplane and, later, powered parachutes, amateur radio, electronic repair, blacksmithing, yard selling, old trains, and repairing things for family and friends. He could often be seen putting around town in his 1924 Model T. He was a member of Young’s Chapel Christian Church, AT&T Pioneers, and American Radio Relay League.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Margaret Crowder Martz; sister, Phyllis (Richard) Martz Krueger; sons Jeff (Lori Rooze) Martz and Phil Martz; grandchildren Shaun Martz, Chelsea (James) Logan, and Halley Martz; and his two great-grandchildren, Presley and Liam Logan.
In light of the COVID-19 situation, a private family funeral service will be held at Sanders-Priebe Funeral Care on Tuesday, March 31, 2020. A Celebration-of-Life memorial will be held at a later date to be determined. Share memories and condolences online at www.sandersfuneralcare.com
