Mr. John Edward Thompson, 64, Crawfordsville, entered the Kingdom of God very peacefully at home on Thursday, September 22, 2011, after a lengthy battle with lymphoma cancer. He was born October 3, 1946 in Montgomery County to Harry Edward and Alma Frances (Bollman) Thompson. He married his soulmate of 39 years, Rebecca Virginia Jordan on May 27, 1972, in Florence, South Carolina. She survives.
John was a 1964 graduate of Crawfordsville High School. He retired from RR Donnelley's & Sons after almost 44 years of service. He began his career as a roll tender and rose up the rank of pressman. The last 20 years he was in the management part of the press room. He served in the United States Air Force from 1965 until 1969. His memberships included Christ Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post #72 of Crawfordsville. He embraced life through fishing, golfing, the ocean, all of his children's activities, and as an avid Notre Dame fan.
He fathered four loving children: Joshua E. (Lee Ann) Thompson, Crawfordsville; R. Ashley (Trisha) Thompson, Greenwood; Reesley L. Thompson, Crawfordsville; and Bethany L. (Christopher) Clinesmith, Indianapolis. John dearly loved his four grandsons: Jayden, Tyler, "Jack", and William. He is also survived by his sister: Dorthy Mae (Bernard) Weir, Crawfordsville, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 27, at 4:00 PM at the Christ Lutheran Church, 300 W. South Boulevard, Crawfordsville, with Rev. Lowell Anderson
officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Hill South Cemetery on Tuesday following the funeral with Military Honors conducted by the VFW and American Legion Posts of Crawfordsville. Friends may call at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, 315 S. Washington St, Crawfordsville, on Monday, September 26, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
