John Young

Mr. John Bryant Young, Sr., 85, Sebring, Florida, and of Crawfordsville, passed away Monday, October 27th, at 12:43 PM, in the Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Lakeland, Florida. He was born February 25th, 1929, in Montgomery County to John R. and Katherine (Gallagher) Young.

Mr. Young had been a Barber several years before working at H C Industries as an Electrician. After leaving H.C. Industries, he returned to Barbering when he purchased the Marvin Swinford Barber Shop in Crawfordsville. He also had worked for a short time for the U.S. Postal Service in Greencastle. He was a graduate of Crawfordsville High School and the Indianapolis Barber School; was a U S Marine Corps Veteran; was a member of the Christ's United Methodist Church, Crawfordsville VFW and American Legion Posts, and the Elks and Moose Lodges.

He is survived by his children: Kathryn (fiance', Jack Phillips) Merrill, and Michael (Carolyn) Young, both of Crawfordsville; and John B. (Amber) Young, Jr., Terre Haute. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters; 1 brother; a grandchild; and a great grandchild.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Monday, November 3rd, at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Renick officiating. Burial will follow at the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, November 2nd, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Military Honors will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday by the U S Marines and the Crawfordsville VFW and American Legion Posts Honor Guard.
