Juanita Irene "Queenie" Sutherlin, 89, of Crawfordsville died August 4, 2017. She was born January 28, 1928, to the late Roy and Edna (Sowers) Taylor in Byron, IN.She married Vern Sutherlin on December 31, 1949, in Browns Valley, IN. They resided in New Market for over fifty years before relocating to a new home north of Crawfordsville in 2007.
Juanita went to beauty school in Indianapolis and started her career as a beautician at Weir Friendly. She then opened Juanita's Beauty Shop in New Market and operated it for thirty years. A passion in Juanita's spare time was baking cookies. She was famously known by friends and family as the "Cookie Lady". Juanita loved making cookies for all holidays, especially for Halloween and Christmas. Anyone that has had a "Queenie Cookie" knows the heart she put into each one.
Juanita is survived by two children: a daughter, Susan (Patrick) Oppy of New Richmond, and a son, Edward (Melinda) Sutherlin of Crawfordsville. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Amanda (Eric) Chastain of New Richmond; Natalie (Michael) Hodge of Greencastle; Nathan Sutherlin of Valparaiso; Andrew (Megan) Oppy of New Richmond; Matthew (Beth) Sutherlin of Lebanon, eight great-grandchildren, three nieces, and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband Vern, parents, and four sisters.
Funeral Services are planned for 3:00 PM Tuesday, August 8th,at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home in Crawfordsville with Rev.Mike Whitacre officiating.Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM.Burial will follow in the Oak Hill South Cemetery.Memorial donations can be made to the Browns Valley Christian Church,9011 SR 47 S., Crawfordsville, IN 47933, a place where both Juanita and Vern always felt welcomed
