Judith (Cain) Mullen, age 84 of Darlington, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 2, 2025 while at home surrounded by her loving family and friends. Judy was born on September 5, 1940 in Lafayette, Indiana, the daughter of Paul and Velera Cain. She is proceeded in death by her parents; her son, Chris Mullen; her grandson, Luke Mullen; her siblings, Pat Lough and Tom Cain; her brother-in-law, Bob Weliver; her niece, Stacy McCutchan; and her family friend, Regina Mellady.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Don Mullen; her children and daughter-in-law Karol Mullen, Caroline (Bob) Gerughty, Paul (Stacey) Mullen, and Debby Mullen; her grandchildren, Morgan Burkhalter, Tyler (Kelsey) Mullen, Audrey (Sergio) Vergara, Lauren Gerughty, and Kerby Gerughty; her great grandchildren, Maddi Mullen, Addy and Weston Tomey, Myles Burkhalter, Esperanza and Mateo Vergara; as well as her siblings, Larry (Joy) Cain, Jerry (Sydney) Cain, Dan (Sharol) Cain, Kenny (Marlene) Cain, Mary Weliver, Terry (Amy) Cain, Candy Adams, Deb (Dan) Gluesenkamp and Jack (Karen) Cain; brother in law, Stan Lough; and sister in law, Betty Cain.
She was born in Lafayette, raised in Brookston, and moved to Darlington when she was in sixth grade. Judy loved farming with her parents and eleven siblings and milking 200 dairy cows before and after school. She was a cheerleader at Darlington High School where she met the love of her life, Don. They were married on September 27, 1958 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church. They lived on a farm and raised their family of four. She delighted in her children and their activities, drove a school bus for many years, and was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader. Judy prided herself on being a domestic engineer and loved making chocolate chip cookies and Twinkie cakes for her family and friends. Judy enjoyed many trips to California to visit her daughter Caroline, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved gardening, especially irises. Judy always dressed in her favorite color, purple, with her signature hair braid. She attended St. Bernard's Catholic Church.
Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, with a viewing from 10 am until 12:30 pm, followed by mass at 1 pm. Burial will follow at St. James Lutheran Cemetery in Darlington.
