Mrs. June Elizabeth (Armstrong) Black, 96, Avon, formerly of Crawfordsville, passed away Friday, June 27th, at 9:04 PM, in the Countryside Meadows of Avon, Indiana. She was born June 12, 1918, in Tuscola, Illinois, to Floyd Arthur and Kate (Rutherford) Armstrong. She married George Burley Black on June 10th, 1949, in Camargo, Illinois. June and Burley farmed in Illinois and Virginia, and raised purebred Black Angus cattle. The family moved to Crawfordsville in 1967. He preceded her in death in 2002.
Mrs. Black retired as a Bookkeeper in 1980 from the Farm Bureau Co-op Cherry Grove elevator near Crawfordsville. She was a 1936 graduate of Tuscola, Illinois, High School; a long time member of the Liberty Chapel Church; a member of the Near and Far Extension Homemakers Club; and was a Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her daughters: Susan M. (William, Jr) McCray, Staunton, VA; Kathryn A. (Gregory) Dietz, Lafayette, IN; Carol E. (Peter) Battistini, Avon, IN; her son: David B. (Lisa) Black, Hammond, WI; grandchildren: William (Jennifer) McCray, III; Jason (Janet) Dietz; Marc (Jillian) Dietz; Christopher Black; Natalie (Kyle) Grandahl; great-grandchildren: Peyton and Lydia McCray; Isaac and Avery Dietz, and Victoria Dietz. Also surviving is a very special and dearly loved sister-in-law: Betty Stenger Armstrong, Crawfordsville, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and her six brothers: Arthur, John, Robert, Glenn, Archie, and Donald Armstrong.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:30 AM Tuesday, July 1st, at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home with Rev. Allen Sparks officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill South Cemetery.
