K9 Tyson, age 5, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2016. K9 Tyson was called out for assistance to help in the search and arrest of 3 males who held up a Danville, IL Walgreens at gun point. During his search, K9 Tyson developed minor heat exhaustion which developed into a critical case of heat exhaustion due to high outside temperature and humidity. He was transported by ambulance to the local vet office, where he was being monitored regularly by great hands. Unfortunately, K9 Tyson developed complications and ultimately succumbed.
K9 Tyson was a Belgian Malinois who was born on November 25, 2010 and began his career on December 18, 2011 with the Fountain County Sheriff's Department. Tyson was trained in detecting narcotics, tracking subjects, and patrol work. He was a hard working professional police dog and was dedicated to the citizens of Fountain County.
K9 Tyson is survived by his beloved partner Deputy Andrew Krout; his wife and their two children; and his entire police family at the Fountain County Sheriff's Department and surrounding departments.
A public memorial visitation will be on Friday, July 8, 2016 from 2-6pm at the Sterling Christian Church, 701 S Sterling Ave, in Veedersburg with a private law enforcement memorial service at 6pm. At the time of the memorial service, we ask that all who were unable to attend the public visitation and those who still want to pay respect to K9 Tyson, to line the streets (US 136 through Veedersburg to US 136 through Covington) for the funeral procession which will start at approximately 7:00pm.
