Kenton Keith Keele

d. April 20, 2017

Kenton Keith Keele, 84, of Covington, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Danville, IL to the late Charles and Thelma (Cooper) Keele on September 24, 1932.

Kenton graduated from Danville High School and married the love of his life, Janis (Hollowell) Keele on June 19, 1954.

He worked at General Motors for 4 years before being drafted into the United States Army where he proudly served from 1952-1954 in Korea as a Staff Sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star and the Syngman Rhee Award. After he served he returned and went into construction and worked for White Construction, was self-employed, and then retired from DHA.

He loved his Lord and sang and played gospel music and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Covington. He played the mandolin, banjo, guitar, and harmonica. He played in a band with his parents and later had his own country band with his son, daughter-in-law, and grandson. He loved restoring antique cars, going to classic car shows, owned his own 1954 Plymouth; which won many awards, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.

Kenton was honored this past April and was selected to go on the Indy Honor Flight. It was an amazing experience which he cherished and he said that he never knew anyone cared about him and his fellow soldiers. Welcome home warrior and even though it is many years overdue, thank you for answering your nations call.

He is survived by his wife, Janis of Covington; one daughter, Susan Cadman of Covington; four sons, Steven (Robin) Keele of Greencastle, Mark (Richie) Keele of Tilton IL, Douglas (Trisha) Keele of Avon, and Matthew (Leah) Keele of Covington; three sisters, Betty Nash of Pekin, IL, Evelyn (Alex) Cooke of Alabama, and Shirley Martin of Georgetown, IL; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Patricia (Joe) Gill; and a son-in-law, Wayne Cadman.

Visitation will be at First Baptist Church, 518 6th Street in Covington on Monday, April 24th from 12:00pm until the time of the service at 2:00pm with Pastors Joe Humrichous and Andy Harkleroad officiating. Burial will follow at the Danville National Cemetery with military honors by the Danville American Legion Post 210 and the United State Army.
