Layne Stewart Callahan, 38, of Linden passed away Friday, January 26, 2024 at Franciscan Hospital Lafayette. He was born July 24, 1985, in Lafayette IN.
Layne never knew a stranger and would always strike up a conversation with anyone. He was always willing to give anyone a helping hand. He graduated from Rossville High School in 2004, and he worked at Custom Building Products in Frankfort. He enjoyed working there and was always quick to toss out some humor with his fellow workers.
Layne had many interests but one of his favorite things was spending time with his son Cayne. They both enjoyed playing online games or just spending time together, of course he loved to playfully tease Cayne. Layne enjoyed hanging out with his family, which was something passed on by his "Poppy," Boyd Stewart. The Stewarts' are a very close-knit family and quick to give each other a fun hard time. Layne was the best at it and enjoyed giving his mom a hard time the most, which ended with his contagious ornery laugh that will be missed by us all.
Layne was relatively new to the Linden community but was finding his way and making new friends. He was a big horror movie fan and always ready to let anyone know which new horror movie was going to be worth watching. He was into collecting horror movie figures and toys from his childhood. He liked visiting toy shops on his hunt for "new" toys to collect or resale. He recently became interested in collectible ball cards and had started hanging out at the local ball card shop and doing shows with his friends.
He was into ghost hunting and keeping up on the next place for a haunted adventure. He always enjoyed bowling and golf. Layne enjoyed hanging out with his many friends and loved to find new places to dine out, which he was always quick to let you know if a place was worth dining at or not. He always had an opinion to share on his restaurant experiences.
He will truly be missed by all that knew him.
Layne Stewart Callahan is survived by his mother Michelle Stewart and his step-father Fred Harshman, his son Cayne Callahan, his grandmother Joy Stewart, aunt Alisa (husband Scott) Stewart-Merryman, cousins Logan Parke (like a little brother) and Mason Merryman, many other family members and those that are almost like family. His father Timothy Callahan resides in North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his loving grandpa Boyd Stewart & cousin Peyton Merryman.
A celebration of life will be held at Messer's Bar & Grill in Linden on Sunday February 4th from 2pm-4pm. All ages are welcome as there is a family dining area. In lieu of flowers donations in Layne’s name can be made to the Friends of Linden Inc and a memorial in his name will be placed at the new splash pad,
