Leonard J. Clawson, 88, of Kingman passed away at 8:00 pm Thursday, December 13, 2012 at the VA Hospital in Danville, IL. He was born August 20, 1924, in Eugene, IN to the late Leonard and Orlena (McLain) Clawson. He married Wanda E. (Mills) Clawson on April 19, 1944 in Covington, IN.

Leonard attended Kingman High School until he enlisted in the United State Army and proudly served during World War II. When he returned from the war he helped his father in the coal mine, was an electrician at Hurletron in Danville, IL, then retired from Overpeck Gas Company in Wallace. After his retirement he was the caretaker of the Kingman Community Church and helped remodel the old Kingman High School into the Kingman Christian Center. He was a deacon and served on the church board at Kingman Community Church, was a member of the Kingman American Legion, enjoyed golf, and loved his numerous friends and family.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda E. (Mills) Clawson of Kingman; sons, Lionel (Judy) Clawson of Kingman, Larry (Maria) Clawson of CA; daughters, Shirley (Terry) Haworth of IL, Tina Brown of TX, and Angie (Mike) Woody of Rockville; 17 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister Kathleen L. Kiger, a son Alan Clawson, and a grandson Joel Brown.

Visitation Wednesday December 19, 2012 from 12-2pm at Sanders Funeral Care, 203 S 1st Street in Kingman with memorial service at 2pm with Bob Cruea officiating. Burial of cremains with follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Covington with military honors provided by the Kingman American Legion. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kingman Community Church. Sanders Funeral Care entrusted with care.
