LeRoy Musselman

January 1, 1924 — October 3, 2018

Crawfordsville

Elmer LeRoy Musselman, age 94, of Crawfordsville went home to be with the Lord on October 3, 2018.  He was born on January 1, 1924, to Milton and Decima (DeLong) Musselman in Bruce, Wisconsin.  As a boy growing up during the Great Depression, he helped his family by raising rabbits for sale as well as for food, delivering milk to the customer’s door before school, using his bicycle to deliver groceries after school and caddying on the golf course.  He graduated from Plano, Illinois, high school in June 1941.  LeRoy proudly served his country during WWII by enlisting in the Navy in the spring of 1942. He enlisted in the Seabees construction battalion but later enrolled in officer candidate school, attending Duke and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant.  After the end of WWII, he finished his bachelor’s degree and Masters of Business Administration at Indiana University.

LeRoy and Kathleen Faye Arnold were married in Flora, IN, on June 20, 1948.

He became a Certified Public Accountant and worked at Ernst and Ernst Accountancy Corp. in Indianapolis before working 2 years at Purdue University.

When Raybestos-Manhattan opened in Crawfordsville in 1952, LeRoy became the accountant and office manager and later became the Controller.  He worked at Raybestos until 1986 when he accepted an early retirement package.

LeRoy had a servant’s heart and provided years of leadership in Scouting as both a Cub Pack Leader and as a Scout Troop Leader.  He also faithfully served at First Baptist Church as Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon and served on numerous committees.  In 1989, he became a faithful member of East Side Baptist Church.

In retirement, he and his wife, Faye, served at the American Baptist Conference Assembly grounds in Green Lake, Wisconsin.  Desiring to use his accounting knowledge and skills to serve the Lord, he volunteered through a Christian agency to provide audit services for several mission organizations over the next 8 years.  He enjoyed woodworking in his retirement years.

LeRoy and Faye recently celebrated 70 years of marriage.  He is survived by Faye, and their three children, Larry and (Joyce) Musselman, Janet and (Terry) Weston, and Nina and (Merv) Pattee; 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; and a half-brother, Thomas Musselman.  He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Florence Christensen and Gail Anderson; and a half-sister, Sue Hobbs.

Visitation will be at East Side Baptist Church, 2000 Traction Road, in Crawfordsville on Saturday, October 6, 2018 from 1:00pm till the time of the funeral service at 3:00pm with Pastor Nate Chambers officiating.  Burial will follow at Oak Hill North Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to: Riley Children’s Hospital, 705 Riley Hospital Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46202 or The Navigators (Christian Discipleship Ministry), PO Box 6000, Colorado Springs, CO 80934.  Sanders Priebe Funeral Care entrusted with care.  Share memories and condolences online at www.sandersfuneralcare.com
