Mrs. Lora Gail Jones, age 91, formerly of the Waynetown area, went to be with the Lord on January 29, 2017. Lora Gail was born August 19, 1925, in Wabash Township, Fountain County, Indiana, to R. Carl and Agnes McCann Craycraft Keller. She graduated at the age of 16 from Covington High School, class of '42, and from Indiana State Teachers College, class of '45.
She began her teaching career at Indianola High School, Illinois, in 1945 and retired from teaching in 1975 from Fountain Central High School. While at FCHS, she was selected Teacher of the Year and was active in Delta Kappa Gamma. She retired from teaching to take a more active role in the family farm, which she worked with the love of her life, Darrell Jones, whom she married April 18, 1946. Darrell preceded her in death on March 9, 2002.
Lora Gail was an active member of the Fountain County Farm Bureau, serving on the county board from 1975 to 2005. Lora Gail was the first woman elected County Secretary-Treasurer.
She was also an active member of Prairie Chapel (Hillsboro) since 1952, serving as Sunday School teacher, pianist, secretary and Ladies' Aid President.
She is survived by her two daughters, Gailyn Casaday, Nashua, NH; Melody (David) Payne, Londonderry, NH; four granddaughters, Meredith (Russ) Cooper, Jackson, TN; Andrea (Mike) Small, Litchfield, NH; Christina (Rob) Dozier, Charleston, SC; and Carlyn Casaday Robinson, Chelmsford, MA; 10 great-grandchildren; many cherished nieces and nephews; her sister-in-law, Helen Davis, Terre Haute, IN, and brother-sister-in-law Gene and Maxine Jones, Marshall, IN.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Yvonne Townsend, brother, Dwight Craycraft and two nephews.
Services will be held at Shoemaker Funeral Home, Waynetown, IN. at 10 AM Saturday, February 11. Visitation will be Friday February 10
from 4 PM to 8 PM. Burial will be at Phanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Wallace, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial can be made to Southeast Fountain Memorial Foundation or to Prairie Chapel. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
