Mabel (Knox) Evans-Eakle, 91, of Crawfordsville, passed away at Lane House on September 19, 2023. She was born in Crawfordsville, Indiana on October 19, 1931 to Kenneth Doris Knox. She graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1949.
During her lifetime, Mabel was a farm wife in New Ross (Married to Pete Evans) for 25 years, worked at GT Dillman Hardware, Town & Country Home Center, Montgomery County Voter Registration, and retired from the Indiana State Highway Department office in Crawfordsville. After retirement, she moved to Arizona, where she worked for the Roger Penske dealership in Scottsdale as a receptionist. While in Arizona, she reconnected and eventually married her high school classmate, Tom Eakle.
Her survivors include son, Gary Evans of New Ross; daughter, Sherry Evans of Brownsburg; grandchildren, Ginger Hart of Zionsville, Chris Yano of Arizona and Melissa Evans of Indianapolis; several great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Wayne Knox of Crawfordsville and Fred Knox of Indianapolis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Eakle; parents Kenneth and Doris Knox; and two sisters, Mary Scherber and Bobbie Glasby.
Cremation was chosen with Sanders Priebe Funeral Care entrusted with arrangements. Services will be private with inurnment in the Oak Hill North Cemetery Mausoleum to be held at a later date. Share memories and condolences at www.SandersFuneralCare.com.
