Mable Jean Johnson, age 95, was born west of Waveland, Indiana to Mirt and Melvinia Strode Wilshire on October 20, 1920.
She was a 1938 graduate of Waveland High School and Terre Haute Commercial College. Mable was employed at the Crawfordsville Woolworth store and then as an Assistant to Dr. Marion Kirtley, M.D. and Dr. John Fraser, D.D.S.
She married Franklin B. Johnson on September 18, 1941. He preceded her in death on January 31, 1991. She has three daughters, Sally (Rodger) Samuels, Spencer, IN; Nancy Johnson (Colin Andrews), Tustin, CA; Peggy (Dennis) Provo, Yulee, FL and son Ron (Susan) Johnson, Lafayette, IN.
Mable has 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Browns Valley Missionary Baptist Church since 1932. A 65 year member of Phi Chi Epsilon Kappa Chapter and Patroness of the Sorority. A member of the Eastern Star #97 for 63 years. Enjoyed her positions in the Republican Party as the Montgomery County Vice Chairman Representative for 28 years, Second Vice President of the Republican Women's Club District 4, Secretary for 20 years and attended several National Conventions. She served as "Tribute to Women" honoree in 1980 and 2006. She received the Sagamore of the Wabash Award in February 4th 1984
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Friday, August 19th, at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, with Rev. Ken Green officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill North Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from Noon until the service time
