Mrs. Margaret Frances Smith, 99, Ladoga, passed away Saturday, May 16th, at 6:25 PM in the Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville. She was born March 6th, 1916 in Danville, Illinois, to Frederick Harrison and Goldie Roxie (Elder) Rutan. She married Merle Burton Smith on February 29th, 1936, in Danville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on December 8th, 1997.

Mrs. Smith had been a "Farm Wife" with her husband as owners of the "Red Top Farms". She also had worked as a Sales Clerk and Purchasing Agent for Dellakamps Department Store. She was a member of the New Market Christian Church, the Chi Omega Sorority, the Order of the Eastern Star; attended Danville High School; was an avid bowler; loved being at home with her cats, watching the birds, working with her flowers; enjoyed traveling and collecting butterfly pins.

She is survived by her daughters: Jeannie (Dave) Shope, Ladoga; Patricia Smith, Logansport; 5 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; several great and great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; 1 brother; and 3 sisters.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Wednesday, May 20th, at the Crossroads Community Church of the Nazarene, 117 W. SR 234, (Highway 234 and 231 South), with Pastor Mark Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Ladoga Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until the service time.
