Marjorie Lee Keeling, 93, passed away March 13, 2025, at Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville. She was born on April 2, 1931, in Fountain County, Indiana to Frank and Avanelle Allen Shoaf. On May 19, 1951, she married Leroy Keeling who proceeded her in death in 1994.
Marjorie graduated from Kingman High School in the class of 1949. She was proud of her school and attended every alumni banquet since graduation, totaling 75 years. After graduation in the spring of 1949, she attended and graduated from "Smart Appearance Beauty College" in Terre Haute. She owned and operated "Marge's Beauty Shop" in Kingman for many years.
Marjorie was a member of the Kingman United Methodist Church and was active in church activities. She loved to garden and pick blackberries; canning her vegetables and making jelly, which she shared with many. She was never happy away from home; when she turned off Hwy 41 onto 234 she said in her view she was back in the "Garden Spot of the World".
One of her favorite things was basketball. In school she played for the KHS girls basketball team, at that time girls could only play 1/2 court. She was a tough team player guarding her end. Marjorie and Leroy were supporters of Covington Basketball. Leroy taught in the school system and was always a member of the score keepers for many years. She liked IU and Purdue, but in later years she loved the Pacers and Indiana Fever.
Some of her best talents were sewing, knitting, and needlepoint. She made all her husband's bow ties and doll clothes at Christmas for her nieces. She liked dressing up for Halloween and dressing her nieces and nephews up to play in the snow so they could hardly move.
Marjorie is survived by a sister, Joyce Berard and sister-in-law, Shirley Shoaf. She was a special aunt to her nieces and nephews and their families; and had many loving friends and neighbors.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, sister Phyllis Ransom, and brother Gordon Shoaf.
