Martha Osborne

Mrs. Martha Ellen (Rice) Osborne, 88, Linnsburg, passed away in her home on Saturday, September 7, at 5:36 PM. She was born December 31, 1924 to Walter and Clara Cornelia (Brown) Rice, in the home of her grandparents, Henry and Elizabeth Brown, south of Linnsburg in Walnut Township, Montgomery County, Indiana. Se lived her entire life in that vicinity. She was educated in Mace and New Ross High School, graduating in 1943. On Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 1945, she married Walter Knight Osborne in the home of Rev. Cornelius Airhart in New Market, Indiana.. He preceded her in death in 2002.

She was a Homemaker and had worked at the Journal & Review and the Whitesville Elevator. She was a long time active member of the Mace United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday School Teacher for many years and a choir member. Having the God given talent of art she used and enjoyed it in many ways during her lifetime.

She was the parent of four children: a son: Walter (Peggy) Osborne; a daughter: Mary Martha (Max) Melvin, both of whom live nearby; and a daughter and son who died in infancy; David Kent and Marcia Claire. She is also survived by grandchildren: Michelle Marie (Marty) Ruiz; Angela Darlene Osborne; Sunshine Rene (Reggie) Hartwell; and A. J. Melvin; great grandchildren: Kaily Osborne, Joseph and Andrew Ruiz, Grace, Ashton, Josie "Ellyn", and Asure Sky Hartwell. In addition to her husband, parents, and infant children, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters: Elizabeth Anna Holt and Mabel Marcella Huffman.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00A AM Wednesday, September 11, at the Mace United Methodist Church, 5581 US 136 E, with Pastors Rodger Ward and Tammy Mussche officiating. Burial will be in the Mace Community Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday, September 10, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Powers-Priebe Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.
