Mr. Marvin Lee Burkett, 88, Crawfordsville, passed away Saturday, August 20th, at 3:44 AM in the Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville. He was born February 6th, 1928, in Parkersburg, to Lee Ira and Salome Ann (Fendley) Burkett. He married Lois Kessler on March 18th, 1951 in the Whitesville Christian Church. She survives.

Marvin was a Farmer; the Owner of ML Burkett & Sons International Harvester Dealership; a Vo-Ag Teacher at Waveband High School; the State of Indiana Director of the Farmers Home Administration, US Department of Agriculture; and worked for the State of Indiana Department of Public Instruction. He was a 1946 graduate of New Market High School; a 1951 graduate of Purdue University; and a Staff Sergeant in the U. S. Air Force Strategic Air Command. His memberships included the Whitesville Christian Church, where he was an Elder; the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity; the Purdue Ag Alumni Association; the John Purdue Club; the Ladoga Masonic Lodge #187; Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis, and the Murat Shrine Club.

Marvin was very active in the community having served on the Montgomery County Ag Extension Committee; was a 4-H Leader and 4-H Fair Board Member; member of the New Market School Board; the Culver Union Hospital Board; MUFFY Board; American Red Cross Board; S & W Rescue Board; Union Federal Savings & Loan Association Board; and served as a Scott Township Trustee. He also received several awards including the Montgomery County Outstanding Young Farmer and the State Runner-up in 1960; a Honorary member of the Indiana Young Farmers in 1971; and a Honorary State Farmer for the Future Farmers of America in 1974.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Michael K. (Nancy) Burkett; Kathryn A. (Jerry) Gilliland; and Mark A. (Peggy) Burkett, all of Crawfordsville. Also surviving are grandchildren: Jason (Juana) Gilliland; Kelly (Jonathan) Shannon; Paul Burkett; Megan (Reed) Sewell; Ben (Cara) Burkett; and Jordan Burkett; great-grandchildren: Chase and Brayden Gilliland; Sophia, Amara, and Adelle Shannon. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother: William Lodell Burkett; and his sister: Leatha Olivian Chamness.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 24th, at Whitesville Christian Church, 3603 S. Ladoga Rd., with Rev. Michael Whitacre officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill South Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday, August 23rd, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Memorials may be made to the church.
