Mary Catherine Carpenter

Mary Catherine Carpenter, age 96, went to be with her eternal Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 7, 2016. Born June 11, 1920 in her parents home, Charles Loren Elmore Watson and Minnie May Davis Watson, near the Wallace covered bridge. Mary graduated from Wallace High School in 1938. She married Lloyd Carpenter on August 26, 1939.
They reared their children in Wallace. Mary was an active member of the Yeddo Baptist Church where she held many offices. She was active in the missionary ladies group, and an AWANA leader for many years. She was an avid book reader and an enthusiastic IU basketball fan. Mary was known as Granner to family and attended many activities that her grandchildren and great grandchildren participated in.
Surviving are her four children: Arena Cummings of Crawfordsville, IN; Phyllis (Don) Beckelheymer of Wallace; James (Shirley) Carpenter of St. Albans, WV; and Jeffery (Belinda) Carpenter of Crawfordsville, IN. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and 1 great great great grandchild, and 4 nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, 1 son-in-law (Norman) and 2 great granddaughters.
Friends may call at the Shoemaker Funeral Home 202 Bratton Rd. Waynetown, IN on Saturday December 10, 2016 from 11:00am until the funeral services at 1:00pm conducted by Pastor Ryan Sowers. Burial will follow at Zackmire Cemetery near Wallace. Memorial may be made to the 3 missionaries Mary supported: Baptist Mid-Missions Foundation, Jay W. Grimes, P.O.
