Mary Frances (Fitzwater) Brown Demoret, age 95, former Jamestown resident, died Thursday night October 6, 2016 at Ben Hur Health and Rehabilitation in Crawfordsville.
She was born in Putnam County, Indiana on February 19, 1921, the second child of the late William and Charlotte Frances Bearkley Fitzwater. Her father met her mother while he was serving in the Navy during WWI. Her mother was born in County Cork, Ireland and was working in a tea room in Edinburgh Scotland.
Mary grew up in the Mace area and moved to Jamestown in 1952. She worked at the Wilson Brothers Garment Factory in Crawfordsville & Chicago during WWII. She later became a beautician and owned and operated Mary's Beauty Salon in her home in Jamestown for over 30 years retiring in 1989. She loved to cook and entertain and was an accomplished pie baker winning numerous blue ribbons. Her homemade noodles were a treat to many around the holidays. Mary loved to play cards. She was a 50 plus year member of Order of Eastern Star. She was the first woman president of the Jamestown Chamber of Commerce.
She married Wesley Brown in Jamestown on October 13, 1943 and he preceded her in death on March 21, 1971. She married Norman Demoret in Waynetown in June 1972 and he preceded her in death on February 11, 1983.
She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn (Robert) Kernodle of Swainsboro, GA; a son, James W. (Diana) Brown of Ladoga; a step-son, Richard (Jennifer) Demoret of New Market, a step daughter-in-law Donna Demoret of Crawfordsville; sisters, Eva Durbin Hobbs of Mooresville and Rosaliene Sparks of Martinsville; two grandchildren, Matthew (Chrissy) Kernodle of Savannah GA and James Wesley Brown II of Brownsburg; and step-grandchildren, Brodie Zimmerman, Michael and Adam Demoret, Robbie, Jamie, and Jason Brewer, Kris Bexell, Jeff Steele, Philip Demoret, Julie Lynch, Karmon Barger, and Kelsey Case; several great grandchildren, step - grandchildren, and step great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents; brothers, Walter, Leonard and Arlie Fitzwater; and step -son, Steven Demoret.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00pm, Monday, October 10th at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home with Harlan Kincade officiating. Burial will follow in IOOF Cemetery in Jamestown. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, October 10th from 11:00am until the time of service.
