Mary Stewart

Mary J. Stewart, 83, Crawfordsville, passed away Monday (Jan. 10) at 8:59 AM at Williamsburg Healthcare. She was born May 8, 1927, in Wilmore, KY, to Arch K. and Nannie James. She married Harold I. Stewart September 2, 1950, in Crawfordsville. He survives.

Mrs. Stewart was a graduate of Wilmore, KY, High School and attended Midway College, Midway, KY. She had worked at Woolworth and later at RR Donnelleys from 1948 until 1955. She was a member of Milligan Presbyterian Church, Montgomery County Chorus, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by 1 daughter: Janis (Kurt) Knecht, Crawfordsville, and 1 son: James Stewart, Crawfordsville. Also surviving is a brother; Henry Clay "Penny" (Dorothy) James, Wilmore, KY, and 2 grandchildren; Collin and Kennedy Knecht. She was preceded in death by her parents: a sister; Alice Alders, and 3 brothers; Joe, Charlie, and Billy James.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday (Jan 13) at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, 315 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville, with Rev. Keith Jones officiating. Burial will be at the Oak HIll North Cemetery, Crawfordsville. Friends may call Wednesday at the funeral home from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
