Mary Madonna Switzer went to be with the Lord March 8, 2016 at Indigo Manor in Daytona Beach, Florida, near the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Fred and Donna Miles. She resided with her family for nine months before moving to the Manor, as her health declined.
Mary was born in Crawfordsville on January 20, 1925, to Neal Eli Alan and Pearl Mae (Jewell) Leonard. She was the youngest of six children. Mary grew up in Yountsville where she attended the church next door to her home. In later years she attended the First Church of God in Crawfordsville. Mary attended Yountsville and Alamo schools.
Mary was first married to James A. Switzer on February 14, 1942, and later to William Wiltermood on July 28, 1961. Both preceded her in death.
She was employed by R. R. Donnelleys as a Book Inspector for 25 years, retiring in 1980. Mary was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary #1005 and the American Legion Post #72 Auxiliary. She greatly enjoyed her many evenings of playing Bingo.
Surviving are two daughters: Donna Jeanne (Fred) Miles of South Daytona, Florida; and Karen E. (David) West of Darlington; two sons: Jimmy Lee Switzer of Colton, California; and Dallas Switzer of Crawfordsville. Also surviving are six grandchildren: R. D'Wayne (Shani) Miles, Prescott, Valley, AZ; Wendy (Shaun) Hoke, Clearwater, FL; Krista (Rocky) Kobel, Crawfordsville; Julie (Eric) McClaskey, New Ross; Sonja (Bob) Bratcher, Crawfordsville; and Dallas Switzer of Lafayette. Also one step-granddaughter, Lisa (Bob) Lawson, Las Vegas, NV.
Surviving also are fifteen great-grandchildren: Joshua, Joseph, and Blake Miles; Zachary and Nicholas Hoke; Payton and Kaden Kobel; Jett, Seth, and Peri McClaskey; Brendan Bratcher; Austin, Houston; Katie and Peyton Switzer. There are 3 great-great grandchildren: Megan, Jackson, and Anniston Miles; 4 step-great grandchildren: Taylor Cape; Ellie, Tori, and Ashley Lawson; and one step-great-great grandson: Julian Lawson. Mary is also survived by several nieces and nephews from the area.
Preceding in death besides her parents and two husbands were three brothers: Carl "Kelly", Lloyd, and Harry (her twin) Leonard; two sisters: Lillian Keller and Louise Hallett; one great-granddaughter: Alexis Miles; and three nieces: Janet Meece, Pamela King, and Vera Dinius; and one nephew: Jeff Leonard.
Friends may call at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 16th, from Noon until 2:00 PM with services following at 2:00 PM with Pastor Chuck Callahan officiating. Mary will be laid to rest in the Oak Hill South Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to: Eagles Auxiliary #1005, 920 E. South Boulevard, Crawfordsville, IN 47933.
