Max A Devitt

Mr. Max A. Devitt, 94, Crawfordsville, passed peacefully on November 17th, 2017 at Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville following a brief illness.

Max was born August 20th, 1923, at Crawfordsville and was the son of Charles Bernard and Blanche Irene (Holland) Devitt.

Upon graduating from Crawfordsville High School in 1943, Max joined the US Army. He served during WW II with the 249th Combat Engineering Battalion from July 1943 to November 1945. During his deployment, Max was stationed in England, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe and earned the American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon w/4 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, and the Victory Medal II.

Max married Dora McCoy on September 1st, 1948 at St. Bernard's with a marriage that lasted 66 years until her passing in 2015. His memberships included St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Crawfordsville; Past Worthy President of Eagles Lodge #1005; Golden Age Eagle; and the Donnelley Club. Max retired after 38 years from R.R. Donnelley & Son in 1985. He enjoyed golfing, tennis, working as part of the "chain gang" at Wabash football games, spectator sports, camping, and traveling with his family.

Max is survived by two daughters: Terri Devitt; and Donna (Chuck) Leonard; two sons: David (Ted Pearson) Devitt; and Dennis (Ashley Frerichs) Devitt, all of Crawfordsville. Max had six Grandchildren: Jeff and Tony Michael; Michele (Miles) Stucky; Luke Devitt; Jeremy (Angie) Leonard; and Chelsey Leonard; along with three Great-Grandchildren.In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his Parents; Brothers: Charles Devitt, Jr. and David Maurice Devitt; and his Daughter and Son-in-law: Peggy and Mike Michael.

Friends may visit with the Family at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 22nd, from 10:00 AM until Noon. Services will follow and burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery with Fr. Christopher Shocklee officiating.An Eagles Memorial Service as well asMilitary Rites (by the Crawfordsville American Legion Honor Guard and the U.S. Army) will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday
