Michael "Mike" Ray Marion, age 64, of West Lafayette, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, June 24, 2013 at 3:32pm at his home surrounded by his loving family after a battle with cancer. Mike was born in Williamsport on June 13, 1949 to the late Gene Marion and his mother Joyce (Freeman) Setchel, who survives. He graduated from Pine Village High School and Purdue University with a degree in Management. On August 19, 1995 he married the love of his life, Cindy (Kerst) Marion, in Mulberry, who survives.
Mike worked in management for Federal Mogul and then retired from Frito Lay after 18 years. He served in the Indiana National Guard for 23 years and retired as a Captain and was a Company Commander. Mike was very active in his church, Grace Lutheran, where he taught bible study, and proudly prepared the sanctuary for Sunday Services . Mike was a faithful Christian witness especially when speaking of God's presence during his illness. Mike loved to ride his Harley's, enjoyed mowing his lawn and shooting trap, was known as the "Keeper of the Keys" at home, and loved spending time with his precious children, grandchildren, and his dog, Dobbie.
Mike is survived by his wife, Cindy (Kerst) Marion of West Lafayette; two sons, Adam (Amber) Marion of
Lafayette and Eli Marion at home; two daughters, Jennifer (Nate) Miller of Monticello and Chelsie Marion of IL; his mother, Joyce (John) Setchel of FL; three sisters, Dana Hobson of West Lafayette, Diana (fiance-Mitch) Marion of Oxford, Sara Ajagu of Oxford; sister-in-law, Diane Yates of West Lafayette; 3 brother-in-laws, Cary Kerst of Oregon, Francis (Bev) Kerst of West Lafayette, and Ken (Kil Yon) Kerst of New York; 4 grandchildren, Evan, Braydon, Tyler, and Elise; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Gene and his beloved son, Michael.
Family will receive friends from 5-8pm, Friday, June 28, 2013 at Grace Lutheran Church, 102 Buckingham Drive, Lafayette. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 29, 2013 at 11am at the church with Pastor Ed Morrow officiating. Cremation will follow the service.
