Montgomery "Mont" J. Starnes

Mr. Montgomery "Mont" J. Starnes, age 95, of Waynetown passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Friday January 20, 2014.

Mont was born on November 11, 1918 at Browns Valley Indiana the son of Vernon and Elsie (Hardee) Starnes. Mont graduated from Waveland High School and completed the Short Course in the school of Agriculture at Purdue University. He served in the Army Air Force during WW II attaining the rank of Sargent.

Mont married Lucille Berniece Fuller on December 22, 1947 and they farmed in the Waveland area.He also worked at the grain elevators at Browns Valley and Whiteville, then he retired as a custodian from Wabash college. He was a member of the Wayneotwn Baptist Church and the American Legion.

Mont is survived by his wife of Waynetown , son: Ronald (wife-Pat) Copeland of Crawfordsville, In. Daughter: Marcia (husband- Allen) Hill of Waynetown. Brother: bobby (wife- Jane) Starnes of Crawfordsville, In. Sisters: Lara Lee Faris of Mins, Florida and Donna (husband- Bill) Pappas of Brownsburg, In. Four Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by 3 sons: Chester, James, and Vernon Mont Starmes and 1 daughter Elsie May Starnes. He was also preceded by 3 brothers, Dick, Earl and Harold Starnes and 4 sisters, Margaret Smith, Mary Miller, Eileen Smith and Betty Wing.

Funeral services for Mont will be held at 11:00 am Monday January 20, 2014 at Shoemaker Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Raffignone officiating. Burial will follow in Old Union Cemetery north of Waveland, In. Friends may pay their respects one hour prior to the services.
