Norma Jean (Phelps) Sering

Norma Jean Sering, age 81, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2023. She was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County, Indiana, and spent the last two years in Virginia, staying with her daughters. Norma was born August 9, 1942, in Putnam County, Indiana, to the late Albion and Laura Mae (Thompson) Phelps. She was a graduate of Crawfordsville High School class of 1960. Norma married her high school sweetheart, Robert Arthur Sering, on August 8, 1960.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Sering; her two brothers, Robert Phelps of Jamestown, Indiana., and Forrest "Gizzy" Phelps of Orlando, Florida; sister-in-law, Linda Booher Sering; grandson, Alex Siedniter; two sons-in-laws, Fred Madrid and Glenn Jones; five nieces, Sandra (Phelps) Agrusa, Betty "Janie" (Phelps) Wyeth, Vicki (Sering) Kachinska, Kathy (Leath) Flippo and Patty (Leath) Temple; and her lifelong friends, Mrs. Georgia (Ben) Keefe, Mrs. Ola Mae Mikesel, Mr. and Mrs. Walter "Wally" and Judy Finitzer.

Norma is survived by her three children, Tim (Debbie) Sering of Darlington, Indiana., Laura (Bill) Wethington of Hampton, Virginia, and Sally (Brian) Seidnitzer of Hampton, Virginia; grandchildren, Penny (Jimmy) Dossey of Isle of Wight County, Virginia, Charlotte (Freddy) Martin of Hampton, Virginia, Carl (Jessica) Wethington of Avon, Indiana, Russell (Jennifer) Chastain of North Carolina, Kenneth Madrid of Hampton, Virginia, Aaron (Trang Doan) Madrid of Hampton, Virginia and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Alex B. Jones of the U.S. Navy currently in Japan; Kyle Jones of Newport News, Virginia; Amber Seidnitzer of Virginia, Virginia (Ginger) Sering of Lafayette, Indiana, and Dana Sering of Darlington, Indiana; nine great-grandchildren, Keith Sering Dossey and Logan Stewart Dossey of Isle of Wight County, Virginia, Zarina Martin of Hampton, Virginia, Audrey Wethington and Bennett Wethington of Avon, Indiana, Haley Chastain of North Carolina, Russell Chastin, Jr. of North Carolina, Alden Madrid and Aurora Madrid from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, sisters-in-law, Hazel (Baker) Sering from Crawfordsville, Indiana., Daphne (Warren) Phelps of Orlando, Florida, Linda (Stadler) Sering of Alabama; beloved nephews, Robert "David" Phelps of Jamestown, Indiana., and Paul David Phelps of Orlando, Florida; nieces and nephews, Sandy Sering Dutcher of Crawfordsville, Cindy Sering Gangus of Tampa Florida, Greg Sering of Crawfordsville, Samantha Sering Hall of Alabama, and Stephanie Sering Ward of Florida; aunt Marie Alcorn of Brodhead, Kentucky; and Nancy Beach of Crawfordsville, Indiana.
