Norma Jean Stout Sillery, 101, formerly of New Market, passed away at the home of her son in St. Louis, Missouri on March 6,2025 She was born in the Black Creek Valley of Montgomery County, Indiana on August 19,1923 to Merle L and Hazel Joslin Stout. She married Glen R. Sillery on August 20, 1950 at the Mt. Zion EUB Church. He preceded her in death on March 22, 2016. She was a graduate of Crawfordsville High School and is believed to be the last surviving member of the Class of 1941. She was employed by New Market High School and Southmont School Corporation as Secretary to the Principal. In this job she made many lifelong friends with the students, faculty, and staff. A lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, she attended Crossway Covenant Church in New Market and Lafayette Park UMC in St. Louis, Missouri.
Being an avid reader, she most enjoyed biographies of 20th century US Presidents and First Ladies. She also enjoyed traveling, where Norma and Glen, along with their son, Kevin, traveled to Europe, Hawaii, Florida, California and New England. Most enjoyable to her were her grandchildren, who will miss her dearly.
Her memberships included the New Market Double Dozen Home Ec Club, the New Market Women's Club and the Chi Omega Chapter of the Pi Omicron Sorority. She was a long time volunteer at F.I.S.H.
Surviving are a son, Kevin (Dr. John Strupel) of St. Louis; a daughter, Glenda (Thomas) Fetch of O'Fallon, Missouri; grandsons, Christopher, Matthew (Emily), and Adam Fetch; granddaughter, Rachael (Wesley) McFarland, all of suburban St. Louis; and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Maxine Shultz; and two brothers, Royce Stout, and Julian (Maxine) Stout.
Services will be Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at 1:00 PM with a visitation preceding the service from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Sanders Funeral Care, Crawfordsville, with Rev. William Pike officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Indian Creek Hill Cemetery.
