Okel "Oak" George Salla, age 61, of Fowler gained his angel wings on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at home while he was surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Lafayette on July 31, 1954 to the late Ralph & Bertha (Cady) Salla.
Okel graduated from Benton Central High School in 1972 and married the love of his life, Sharon "Sherry" Lynn (Gall) Salla on July 9, 1983 at St. Johns in Earl Park. Throughout the years he worked at the old box factory in Fowler for almost 30 years, as a custodian at Benton Central, a corrections officer and 911 dispatcher for the Benton County Sheriff's Dept., but his biggest love was being a Reserve Deputy for the Sheriff's Dept. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching Nascar, football, and loved watching WWE with his family. He was a kind hearted, loving man who cherished his children and grandchildren to no end.
He leaves behind by his wife, Sherry; four daughters, Kelly (Curtis) Gilbreath, Jodi (Justin) Cruz, Melony Salla, and Candi Salla; one brother, Ralph "Joe" (Martha) Salla; one sister, Ava (Terry) Snodgrass; four grandchildren, Kadyn, Blayne, Emmalyn, and Jayvion; and his dog, Jetti.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 10, 2016 from 5-8 pm at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 107 E Main Street, in Fowler. Rosary service will be at 4:45pm. The funeral mass will be Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 11:00am at the church with Father Gross officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Memorial Donations may be given to Benton County Special Needs, INC (Special Olympics) and mailed to Benton Central High School, Juanita Garten, 4241 E 300 S, Oxford, IN 47971.
