Otis "Duane" Cornett

Otis Duane Cornett, age 66 of Crawfordsville, passed away on Friday, January 22, 2021 at home while surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Crawfordsville on July 21, 1954 to the late Otis & Lilly Mae (Sturman) Cornett.

Duane attended Crawfordsville High School and on February 19, 1972 he married his high school sweet heart, Peggy Crane, who survives. He worked at Crown Cork & Seal as a press operator for 43 years. He loved to fish, take long rides in the evening and watch deer, taking vacations with his boys, shooting guns and his cannon, was always on the phone talking, was a man of faith, he never met a stranger, and was always a comedian. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy; two sons, Ben (Sayrah) Cornett and Derek Cornett; a daughter, Christy (Chris) Horbach; eight grandchildren, Austin (Jake), Trevor, Chandler, Xavier, Mason, Scarlett, Katie, and Corbin; three great grandchildren, Bristol, Nova, Kasen; four siblings, Connie (Jerry) Perkins, Randy (Laurel) Cornett, Gerald (Linda) Cornett, and Donald Jo Cornett; an uncle, Wayne Bell; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Travis Cornett; a sister, Betty J. Strunk New; a brother, Steve Cornett; and two aunts, Beulah Toney, and Magnollie Bell.

Cremation was chosen with a celebration of life at New Hope Christian Church, 2746 US Hwy 231, Crawfordsville on Saturday, January 30, 2021 from 1:00pm till the time of the service 4:00pm.
