Philip Jones

Rev. Philip Merrill Jones, 85, Crawfordsville, passed away Wednesday, September 21, at 1:45 PM, at Hickory Creek of Crawfordsville Healthcare. He was born September 16, 1926, in Marion, Ohio, to Lawrence D. and Nola Mary (Oiler) Jones. He married Thelma Joan Bennett on August 31, 1946, in Wabash, Indiana. She survives.

Rev. Jones retired from the ministry last serving for 8 years at Sonlight Wesleyan Church, Crawfordsville. He also served as pastor in other parts of Indiana, including Lafayette, and the states of Florida, South Carolina, West Virginia, and Ohio. He was a graduate of Harding High School, Marion, Ohio, and a 1953 graduate of Marion College, now Indiana Wesleyan University, in Marion, Indiana. His memberships include the Sonlight Wesleyan Church; Evangelical Ministry Association, Lafayette; Indiana District Sunday School Board; and attended the first Wesleyan Church International Conference in Israel in 1978. In his free time he enjoyed hunting.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons: Keith A. (Catherine) Jones, Crawfordsville; Dennis D. (Barbara) Jones, Darlington; and his daughter: Cheryl A. Jones, Crawfordsville. He is also survived by his brother: Rev. Dr. James D. Jones, Jacksonville, Florida; and 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, May Foster.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 25, at 4:00 PM at the Sonlight Wesleyan Church, 2950 US 231 South, Crawfordsville, with Rev. Keith Jones and Dennis Jones officiating. Friends may call at the church on Sunday from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, September 26, at the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery, Waynetown, Indiana.
