Mr. Ralph A. Sayler, 90, New Market, passed away Friday, December 12th, at 10:30 AM in the Ben Hur Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born March 24th, 1924, in Montgomery County, to Walter F. and Opal (Bonwell) Sayler. He married Virginia L. Vail on August 22nd, 1948, in New Market. She preceded him in death on September 11th, 1993.
Mr. Sayler was a farmer and business owner, having owned R. A. Sayler Implements in New Market, selling New Idea and Allis Chalmers farm machinery. He also built the "Robo Car Wash" in New Market, which at the time was one of the first in the state, and started with his son, Jerry, the "Saylers Ice Cream" store, later known as "Jerry Licious". He was a member of the New Market United Methodist Church; Past President of the New Market Businessmen; served as the New Market Town Marshall; was on the New Market Volunteer Fire Department; worked for many years at the Indiana State Fair and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway; and was an IU basketball fan.
He is survived by his children: Carolyn (Jim) Harshbarger, Crawfordsville; Gene (Nancy) Sayler, Lafayette; and Jerry Sayler, New Market. Also surviving is his brother: Charles Sayler, New Market; 6 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother: Robert; and his sister: Barbara Sayler.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 AM Tuesday, December 16th, at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, with Rev. William Pike officiating. Burial will follow in the Indian Creek Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, December 15th, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
