Mr. Raymond L. "Pete" Day, 82, Crawfordsville, passed away Friday, November 13th, at 5:58 AM, in the Witham Memorial Hospital, Lebanon. He was born November 3rd, 1933, in North Vernon, Indiana, to Raymond and Marie G. (Scherchigt) Day. He married Julia D. "Judy" Edwards in Cicero, Indiana, on July 2nd, 1954. She preceded him in death on May 6th, 2013.
Ray was a Retired Wire Drawer for Mid-States Wire, where he worked for 33 years. He was a 1951 Graduate of North Vernon High School; a U. S. Army Veteran; a member of the Mace United Methodist Church, where he was in the "Whiz Bang Choir" and the "He-Man" group. His hobbies include camping, hunting, fishing, woodworking, leatherwork, playing the guitar, gospel singing, and dancing.
He is survived by his children: Raymond A. Day, Crawfordsville; Debbie Starcher, Elmdale; and Donna Cooper, Linden. Also surviving are brothers: Gerald "Jake" Day, Columbus, Indiana; Norman "Butch" (Joyce) Day, North Vernon; James "Jim" (Peggy) Day, North Vernon; Bernard "Bernie" (Linda) Day, Trafalgar; sister: Laticia "Tish" Gossman, Vernon; brother-in-law: Jerry "Doc" Moore, Elizabethtown, Indiana; grandchildren: Jade, Jason, and Justin Pastore; Nick Cooper; Chelsea Day; and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister: Carol "Sis" Moore.
Funeral services are scheduled fore 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 17th, at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, with Pastor Tami Mussche officiating. Burial will follow in the Mace Community Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, November 16th, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Military Honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army and the Crawfordsville American Legion and VFW Posts' Honor Guard at the funeral home prior to the funeral services.
