Raymond J. "Jake" Hocking, 81, Waynetown, passed away Saturday, June 11, at 6:00 AM at the Ben Hur Nursing Home, Crawfordsville. He was born March 9, 1930, in Benton, Wisconsin, to Raymond Joseph and Myrtle (Addison) Hocking. He married Joyce Olson April 27, 1957, in Monroe, Wisconsin. She survives.

Mr. Hocking was retired from Mid-States Steel & Wire Co, Crawfordsville, where he had been a wire drawer. He was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Crawfordsville; was a graduate of Benton, WI, High School; was a Korean War Army Veteran; member of The Waynetown American Legion Post; enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing horseshoes, gardening, and traveling.

In addition to his wife he is survived by 4 daughters: Jolene (Jerry) Pickett, Lake Holiday; Dawn (Bruce) Foster, Plano, IL; Carletta (Scott) Sorrels, Crawfordsville; and Lori Hocking, Indianapolis. Also 4 sons: Rodney Hocking, Evansville; Raymond O. Hocking, Crawfordsville; Brian (Emily) Hocking, San Bernadino, CA; and Charles Hocking, Lebanon. Also surviving are 2 sisters: Jean (Bob) Hoyer, Benton, WI; Lois Richardson, Platteville, WI; and 1 brother: David (Helen) Hocking, Benton, WI. There are 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren surviving. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers; Alvin, Joseph, Harold, Lawrence, and Robert; and a sister, Wilda, and an infant sister; also 1 granddaughter, Ashley Hocking.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 16, at 11:00 AM, at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 1414 E. Wabash Ave., Crawfordsville, with Rev. Michael Bristol officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday, at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, 315 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville, and 1 hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be at the Oak Hill North Cemetery, Crawfordsville, with Military Honors conducted by the American Legion and VFW Posts of Crawfordsville.
