Rex Lynn Mapes, age 67 of Wingate, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born in Crawfordsville on March 18, 1953 to the late Harold Perle & Erma Margaret (Redifer) Mapes.
Rex graduated from New Market High School in 1970 and married the love of his life, Martha Brown, on November 17, 1973. Throughout the years, he was a truck driver, worked at the Montgomery County Highway Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department as a jail officer and jail commander. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, model trains and was a ham radio operator.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Martha; three children, Greg Mapes, Andria (Nicholas) Geigle, and Ryan (Megan) Mapes; five grandchildren; Ethan, Ashlynn, Logan, Lucas, and Kyle; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Richard Harris, Rolland Harris, and Larry Harris.
Visitation will be at Sanders Priebe Funeral Care, 315 S Washington St, in Crawfordsville on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 from 1:00pm till the time of the Celebration of Life at 2:00pm with Celebrant Dennis Horn officiating.
