Mr. Robert Allen Garner, 84, Crawfordsville, passed away Thursday, February 26th, at 9:35 AM in the Hendricks Regional Health Hospital, Danville. He was born February 24th, 1931, in the old Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville, to Sherman R. and Clare Irene (Mitcheltree) Garner. His great great great great grandparents traveled by covered wagon settling in Ladoga. He married Virginia L. Shillings in the Wabash College Chapel on December 23rd, 1962. She preceded him in death on January 1st, 1994.

Mr. Garner started his working career while in high school working in his Father's business, The Regal Store. He also worked as a Secretary for the Milwaukee Railroad; was a Bookkeeper for the Hydraulic Brick Company, Crawfordsville; He and his wife moved to Richmond, Indiana, where he worked at a construction company; and later working for the Cedar Spring Nursing Home, New Paris, Ohio. After another move to Clermont, Indiana, he worked in the Supply Department for the Indiana State Highway Department. Other places of employment were the Bryant Air Conditioning, Indianapolis, as a Mail Room Foreman; Paul Harris Headquarters, Indianapolis, in shipping and as a Security Guard; was a Wheelchair Aide at the Indianapolis Airport; and a Security Guard for Carrier Corporation. He was a 1949 graduate of Crawfordsville High School, where he had been a member of the high school band, Chorus Club, ABC Club, Spanish Club, and a reporter for the Gold & Blue school newspaper. He enjoyed playing the piano in recitals during his elementary and middle school years. He also was a graduate of the Indiana Central Business College, and attended Butler University and Indiana State University. Bob was a U. S. Army Korean War Veteran where he was a member of the 45th Infantry Division attaining the rank of Corporal, seeing action with a machine gun crew around "Old Baldy Mountain". While in Korea, he was able to furnish church hymnals to the Korean United Methodist Church. He was Honorably Discharged in 1953. He and his wife were "extras" during the filming of "Hoosiers" in Indianapolis.

He is survived by extended family, friends, and neighbors.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Monday, March 2nd, at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 110 S. Blair St., Crawfordsville, with Rev. Chris Renick officiating. Burial will follow in the New Ross Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Monday, from Noon until the service time. Military Rites will be conducted at the church by the U.S. Army and the Crawfordsville American Legion and VFW Honor Guard. Powers-Priebe Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements. Memorials may be sent to the Trinity United Methodist Church
