Robert Keith Larsh, 87, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away on Sept. 11, 2017. Bob was born in Crawfordsville, IN to Orval J. and Gladys (Swails) Larsh on April 11, 1930. He graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1948 and in 1951 was married to Jean Grimes of Wallace, IN and she survives.
He graduated form Purdue University in 1954 with a BS degree in Air Transportation, School of Aeronautical Engineering. Bob was a member of the Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corp (ROTC) at Purdue and planned to become an Air Force pilot during the Korean War until the discovery of his color blindness made him ineligible to pilot. Since he had received his Aircraft and Engine Mechanics license at Purdue, he chose to join the Air Force Reserves as a mechanic at Bakalar Air Force Base, Columbus, IN, serving twelve years.
In 1954 he was employed by Allison Gas Turbine Div., of GMC which later became Rolls Royce and retired in 1999 after forty-five years as a Senior Parts Analyst.
Since the age of fourteen, Bob was an avid model airplane builder, designer and flyer. He was a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics and enjoyed competing in contests around the country and especially at the AMA field in Muncie, IN. He was also a member of the CIA (Central Indiana Aero modelers) of Anderson, IN. As a member of the Modockers Club he enjoyed drag racing his ford coupe at Stout Field during the mid 1950's.
Bob is survived by his wife Jean, daughter Sheree and Son Eric, brother Rev. James Wm. (Mary Kathryn) Grimes, sister-in-law Mary Lee Larsh and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother Richard Larsh.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, Sept. 23 at Shoemaker Funeral Home in Waynetown, IN with visitation at 2:00 PM, with burial following at the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.
