Mr. Robert Lee "Bob" Smith, 87, Crawfordsville, passed away Thursday, March 2nd, at 8:30 AM, in the Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville Healthcare. He was born May 28th, 1929, in Greene Township, Parke County, to Artie Varie and Edna Marie (Langford) Smith. He married Geraldine Almeda Hughes in Mace on March 29th, 1972. She survives.
Bob had been the Owner/Operator for his Trucking Company for 25 years. He also was the Owner/Operator for VIP Limousine Service in Crawfordsville for 13 years. He attended Crawfordsville Schools; and his memberships included the Alamo Masonic Lodge; the Montgomery County Murat Shrine Club; and the Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite. In his free time, Bob enjoyed traveling; fishing; metal detecting; studying history; and listening to country music.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son: Robert L. Smith, Jr., of Crawfordsville; and his daughter: Nona Marie. Also surviving is his sister: Betty (Jim) Derringer, of Roachdale; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his special companion, his dog, Siena. He was preceded in death by parents; his sister: Shirley Gooding; and his brother-in-law: Harry Hughes.
Cremation was chosen with a Private Family Memorial Service being planned at a later date. There will not be any public services. Interment will be in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.
