Robert E. "Sparky" Watts

November 24, 1930 — March 17, 2013

Mr. Robert E. "Sparky" Watts, age 82, passed away at Franciscan St. Elizabetth Hospital Emergency Room, Crawfordsville, In. on Sunday afternoon March 17th.

Sparky was born on November 24, 1930 at New Richmond, Indiana to Carl and Ethel Faye Bunnell Watts and grew up on the family farm. He graduated fron New Richmond High School in 1948 and then received a Bachelors Degree in history at Wabash college in 1952. While at Wabash he was a member of the ROTC and then enlisted in the United States Airforce. Sparky was very proud to have served in the Air Force for twenty years in many capacities including as a navigator on a KC135 in Indochina and Vietnam, and retired with the rank of Lt. Col.

After the service he worked as an estimator for Randolph Builders and then served on the cemetery board as the Sextant of Oakland Cemetery near Elmdale, In. He attended St. Bernard's Catholic Church and had memberships in the American Legion, VFW and Vietnam Veterans organizations. In his spare time he loved to travel, was an accomplished woodworker and spending time with his family of whom he was very proud.

While in the service Sparky met and married Joan Gates on January 20, 1956 at Ft. Benton, Montana and she survives at New Richmond. Also surviving are 3 sons: Tom and wife Terry of St. Cloud, Mn.; John and wife Mary of Littleton,
Co.; Timothy and wife Lisa of Vincennes, In. Also daughter Mona Watts of Littleton, CO. one brother: John and Mary Watts of New Richmond, In., Sister: Ruby and husband Richard Nesbitt of New Richmond, In. 10 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters: Ruth Thompson, Doris Swick and Martha Swick.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Friday March 22 nd at Shoemaker Funeral Home, Waynetown with Father Dennis Faker officiating. Burial will follow at Oakland cemetery with millitary honors. Family will receive visitors from 4:00pm until 8:00pm on Thursday at the funeral home.
