Roy Springer of Waynetown passed away at his home September 5, 2020. Roy was born to Ralph and Helen (West) Springer. He was reared and educated in the Waynetown Community, and was a member of the Waynetown Baptist Church.
On September 2, 1944, Roy started serving his country during WW II in the United States Army with the Field Artillery Unit, where he received a Victory Medal, a European-African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 2 Bronze Battle Stars, a good conduct medal and the Army of Occupation Medal in Germany. He received an honorable Discharge in May 1946. He was a member of the Waynetown American Legion Post 445, a lifetime member of VFW Post 1431 and a lifetime member of Masonic Lodge 302. Roy was employed at Hoosier Crown as a truck driver for 39 years before retiring in 1987. He is survived by his three children, Roy "Butch" of Wingate, IN; Vicky (Jim) Redmon of Mill Hall, PA; Susie (Mark) Hutchison of Crawfordsville, IN and step-daughter Patricia (Bob) Gates of Yorkville, IL. He had nine grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He is also survived by two sisters, Lenora Gibson, Clermont, IN and Betty Lou Carver of Albuquerque, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Doris and brother Leon.
Roy was a devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed his family and friends. He loved watching sports, working outside in the greenhouse and his garden.
Funeral services will be held at Shoemaker Funeral Home, 202 Bratton Rd. Waynetown, IN at 1:00pm Wednesday September 9th 2020 with Mel Vance Presiding. Military Honors will be held at the funeral home. Friends and family may pay their respects from 11:00 am until the services begin that day. Cremation will take place after the funeral. As per state mandate for Covid 19 face mask will be required.
