Ruth Ida Clodfelter

Mrs. Ruth I. Clodfelter, age 94, of Hillsboro, In. passed away at her home on Thursday December 15, 2016 following an extended illness. Ruth was born on December 22, 1921 at Danville, Il the daughter of Cyrus Dillon and Geneva Coonrod Bailey. Raised in the Danville community she graduated from Danville High School. Ruth married Guy Clodfelter on June 1, 1938 and they made their home in Independence Hills, In. where they raised their family. Ruth was very active in her church and communities her entire life. While in Independence Hills she started a girl scout troop, was an elder in the Presbyterian church, the adult Choir and was a officer in the District Senate of the church. In her retirement years she was very active in the Wallace Phanuel Lutheran Church holding most offices over the years, including the Lutheran Church LCA of Lafayette and the ladies society. She was a past officer of the Fountain County Home Ec. club, the Jackson Twp. Home Ec. club, the County Home Ec. Choir. She volunteered for 20 years at the Danville correctional Facility thru DAC and was a Docent at the Vermillion County Il. War Museum and was very proud of the "Bailey room honoring her brothers. Brigadier General Wayne Bailey, Lt. Col. Gordon Bailey and Major Kenneth Bailey who received the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Ruth is survived by her daughters: Sharon Pederson and Sandra (husband James) Tarrant both of Hillsboro, In. She also has 4 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, 1 sister Edith Harder, husband, daughter Sally in 1944 and grandchildren Michael and Megan Tarrant.

Funeral services for Ruth will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday December 18th at Shoemaker Funeral Home and officiated by Lowell Anderson. Burial will follow in Wallace Lutheran Cemetery. the family will receive guests from 11 am until the service on Sunday. Memorial donations may be made to the Jackson township scholarship fund or to the Vermillion County War Museum.
