Shirley E Simmons

Mrs. Shirley E. Simmons, 83, of New Ross passed away peacefully Friday evening,January 5, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was bornJanuary 15, 1934, in Decatur, Illinois, to Ralph J. and Norma E. (Metzger) Coventry. She married David E. Simmons onJuly 15, 1951, in Crawfordsvillle. He preceded her in death onMay 16, 2004.

Shirley had been a homemaker; worked at the Whitesville Grain Elevator; worked as a cook at Walnut Elementary School; and retired from the Crawfordsville Walmart. She was a 1952 graduate of Crawfordsville High School and her memberships included the Mace United Methodist Church; the Athens Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star;served as President of theSouthmont Athletic Booster Club;andthe President of theWalnut Elementary PTO. In her free time she enjoyed traveling, photography, knitting, needlepoint, scrapbookingand attending her grandchildren's numerous activities.

She is survived by her sons: Steven (Jennifer) Simmons, Zionsville; Michael (JoEllen) Simmons, Carmel; and her daughter:Kristina (Patrick) Canny, Noblesville.Also surviving are her grandchildren: Alec, Tavic, Tanner, Avery, Erin, and Sean. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters (Delores Surface and Patricia Bowman), and her brother (James Coventry). Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PMThursday, January 11, at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home with Rev. Tami Mussche officiating. Private family burial will follow in the Mace Community Cemetery.Friends may call at the funeral home onThursdayfrom noon until the service time.
