Shirley Ann (Mills) Surface

Shirley Ann (Mills) Surface, age 84, of Crawfordsville, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2020 at Ben Hur Health and Rehabilitation. She was born on February 29, 1936 to the late Ora Vern and Kitty Marie (Nichols) Mills.

Shirley graduated from Kingman High School in 1954. On June 4, 1955, she married Floyd “Doc” Lewis Surface Jr, who preceded her in death on August 25, 2006. After 25 years, she retired from Kroger in Crawfordsville, where she worked as a cashier. She was a member of Browns Valley Christian Church and Bunco Club. She loved all her Bunco Club friends. Shirley enjoyed embroidery, sewing, flowers, and square dancing. She loved going to church activities; her favorite activity being pie & tie night.

Shirley is survived by two sons, Randy (Jayne) Surface of Columbus and Rodney (Elisa) Surface of Darlington; two daughters, Rita (Gene) Starnes of Waveland and Regina Trent of Bainbridge; a brother, Ed (Judy) Mills of Crawfordsville; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, “Doc”, two brothers, Wayne and Wendall Mills; and a sister, Wanda Clawson.

There will be a Graveside Service at 11:00am on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at Indian Creek Hill Cemetery with Pastor David Finch officiating.
