"Good friends, good books, and a sleepy conscience-this is the ideal life." -Mark Twain
By this measure, Steve had the most ideal life.
Steven K Wise, just shy of his 62nd birthday, passed peacefully at home April 7, 2021. His body succumbed to cancer, but his spirit will live forever in the lives of his children and the smiles of his grandchildren. His three children surrounded him and held him while he passed.
Steve was born April 11, 1959, to John A and Connie (Weddle) Wise. He was the second of five children, and he was the first of the children to depart this life. Both of his parents preceded him. The remaining siblings are John F Wise (Ann) of Atoka, OK; Timothy Wise (Rena) of Gooserock, KY; Shari Wassmer of Homosassa, FL; and Shannon Furr (Jeff) of Crawfordsville.
Steve's three children, the pride of his life: Jeremy Wise (Jennifer) of Covington, IN; Stephanie O'Neal (Brandon) of Frankfort, IN; and Amy Wise (Ryan Blanton) of Crawfordsville. Mourning with their parents are the four grandchildren, the joy in Steve's heart: Ethan, Deven, Landon, and Sophie.
Steve had many friends, some of the truest, most loyal friends a man could be privileged to know. The friends who surrounded him at the IRP came often to visit his home once he could no longer go out. They brought groceries, laughter, and an unprecedented loyalty. Donnie, Darrell, Dave, and Jimmy Mack, you know who you are, and there is a special place in Heaven for you when you are called up.
Steve retired early from RR Donnelley & Sons after 34 years, most of which were spent in the bindery. He was an avid golfer, although his love of the game waned a little when his dad and golf partner died. He loved to fish and continued to dream about taking one last fishing trip. He recently told his friend Lisa that he would be out to fish in her pond in April, so she will probably see evidence of him there. He was also an excellent pool player with a bit of a reputation for his billiard prowess. Whether the reputation was earned or purely his own ego, he did love to play the game. He is perhaps most renowned for his ability to spin a yarn. Like a spider's perfect web, Steve would spin intricate details and fascinating turns to trap the listener and keep him/her caught up in the particulars until finally they landed smack-dab in the middle of the truth!
Respecting Steve's wishes, cremation was chosen, and his remains will be interred in a family plot in Washington, IN, where his stone will be set alongside those of his father,
grandparents, uncles, and cousins.
Steve's family invite you to commemorate his life during a visitation on Saturday April 10, from 11:00 to 1:00 at Sanders Priebe Funeral Home in Crawfordsville, immediately followed by a brief service at 1:00.
