Terry Eugene Ellingwood, age 68, of Wallace passed away peacefully at 10:00 pm on May 17, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving girls, after a valiant 15 year battle with cancer. He was born in Crawfordsville on July 3, 1946 to the late Eugene and Idell ( Mitchell) Ellingwood.
He graduated from Wallace High School in 1964 and married the love of his life of 49 years, Darla (Sowers) Ellingwood on October 2, 1965 in Wallace. Terry was a farmer, builder, loved to trade and deal, was a great dad, loving husband and loved spending time with his family. He was a compassionate, community oriented, problem solving, engineering minded, resolute, fiscal conservative. He was member of the Wallace Masonic Lodge #495, having served in all the offices and was the past Master in 1972, 1994, 1997, and 1998. He was awarded the "Mason of the Year" at the Wallace Lodge; was a 32 degree Mason of the Scottish Rite of Terre Haute; member of the Phanuel Lutheran Church and president of the church council; served on the Jackson Township Advisory Board; was a precinct committeeman and vice committeeman; was a Fountain County Commissioner for 8 years; Jackson 4-H leader for 8 years; and was in the first EMT class of Fountain County. He was a member of the Fountain County Genealogical Society, the John Deere 2 cylinder club, a lifetime member of the Draft Horse Association, American Jersey Cattle Club, American Border Collie Association and the NRA. He also built 47 new homes plus barns and numerous other remodels with his dad and two brothers, Jim and Jeff.
He is survived by his loving wife, Darla of Wallace; son, Erik Ellingwood of Terre Haute; daughter, Beth (Shane) Chezem of Wallace; three brothers, Nick (Thelma) Ellingwood and Jim (Charol) Ellingwood, both of Wallace, Jeff (Liz) Ellingwood of CA; 6 grandchildren, Ethan, Isaac, Zachary, Nathan, Lauren, and Hannah; 2 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Southern Care hospice and a special thanks to his nurse Elaine.
Visitation will be from 4-8pm on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Sanders Funeral Care, 203 S 1st Street, Kingman. A Masonic Service will take place at 11:00 am on Friday, May 22, 2015 at the Wallace Masonic Lodge with burial following at the Wallace Lutheran Cemetery.
