Mrs. Thelma Joan Jones, 87, Central, South Carolina, and formerly of Crawfordsville, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, September 14th, at 5:10 PM. She was born October 12th, 1927, in Wabash, Indiana, to Glenn and Irene (Hipskin) Bennett. She married the Rev. Philip M. Jones on August 31st, 1946, in Wabash, Indiana. He preceded her in death on September 21st, 2011.
Mrs. Jones was a Homemaker; a Pastor's wife; had been a Secretary for many years having worked in several areas including for the Crawfordsville Police Department Detectives; for Drs. Daily and Comer, with the Crawfordsville School System; for the President of Edison Community College in Ft. Myers, Florida, where she also taught classes; for the President of General Tire Corporation, Wabash, Indiana; for the Crawfordsville Sonlight Weslyen Church; and had been the Editor for the Wesleyan Banner for the General Wesleyan Church. Thelma was an accomplished musician, playing several instruments including the piano and organ. In her free time she enjoyed her music and being with her family.
She is survived by her children: Rev. Keith (Catherine) Jones, Crawfordsville; Dennis (Barbara) Jones, Darlington; and Cheryl Jones, Central, South Carolina. Also surviving is her sister: Lois (Carl) Cloud, Claypool, Indiana; 9 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers: David, Robert, Donald, and Max Bennett.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 PM Saturday, September 19th, at the Sonlight Wesleyan Church, 2950 US 231 S., Crawfordsville, officiated by Rev. Keith Jones, of the Crawfordsville Sonlight Wesleyan Church and Dennis Jones local minister of the Colfax Wesleyan Church. Burial will follow in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 1:00 PM until the service time. Powers-Priebe Funeral Home is assisting with the services.
